Tom Chatham

Chairman & CEO

Chatham Created Gems & Diamonds

Tom Chatham stands as a visionary in the realm of gemology, evolving his father Carroll Chatham's pioneering efforts into a globally recognized legacy. Carroll, captivated by the alchemy of creating gems, mastered the art of growing emeralds in a garage laboratory, setting the foundation for Chatham Created Gems & Diamonds. Tom, inheriting his father's scientific curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit, ventured into the company in 1965 with fresh insights and a business acumen that would propel the company to new heights.

Under Tom's stewardship, Chatham transcended its original mission, moving from providing rough lab-grown gems to selling faceted gemstones, a strategy that redefined the market. Seeing beyond the bench, he cultivated connections with master cutters across the globe, ensuring that Chatham's stones were not only unique in creation but exceptional in their presentation. In 1976, Tom’s innovative vision earned him the role of President, where he continued to build upon his father's legacy, achieving Carroll’s dream of creating diamonds in the lab.

One of Tom's most notable contribution is his integration of Chatham into the finished jewelry market. Partnering with industry expert Harry Stubbert, they launched a line of jewelry that showcased lab-grown gems in avant-garde designs, introducing captivating cuts like the onion, flame, and century that are exclusive to Chatham.

Today, Chatham is celebrated as the leader in lab-grown gemstones, embodying both Carroll’s scientific passion and Tom’s savvy expansion.
